Nick Stubblefield (born October 18, 1987 in New York City) composes, produces, performs and records music for live presentation, film, video, and dance. He grew up in Asheville, North Carolina, where from age nine he frequently performed publicly on piano and electronic keyboards. He won a number of prestigious awards and scholarships.
By the age of 13, Nick was working as a pianist on weekends at the world class resort hotel, the Grove Park Inn. In 2003 he recorded and released independently his CD "Tried As An Adult."
In 2004, still in high school, Nick formed the jazz trio "Spitfire," for which he composed original jazz pieces. The prestigious Jazz Composers Forum debuted the combo at Asheville's hip venue, The Grey Eagle. The group played a variety of high profile events from 2004 through 2006.
In January 2006 Nick performed at The International Jazz Festival Lapataia in Punta del Este, Uruguay with jazz saxophonist Alex Han.
Nick has composed jazz, chamber works, pop songs, electronic music for dance, and arrangements for church music. Through his production company, Stubblefield Productions, he has scored advertisements, documentaries, web sites, and movies including "Oakwood," an award-winning short comedy/horror film created by students at the University of Westminster, London.
Nick's acoustic/electronic "The Orphan Girl -- Nenneh" was presented to thousands of music lovers as part of the gala re-opening of Aycock Auditorium, a newly restored performance hall at UNC-Greensboro. His composition "Interstate 40" was premiered in 2010 by the UNCG Symphony Orchestra with guest conductor Eduardo Vargas. Later that year Nick received his degree in Music Composition from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
Nick has studied composition with Dr. Mark Engebretson, and Dr. Alejandro Rutty. He has studied piano with Dr. David Foster, Dr. John Salmon, and Mrs. Deborah Hollis.
On January 6th, 2012, Nick released his second album, a collection of original pop songs entitled “Foolish Fantasy.”
He currently resides in New York.
